Cascades on the Margaret River

With all  the trouble my computer and the hard drives are giving me a the moment, I find it hard to dedicate time to go out and shoot. Just yesterday, while running a backup, my PC crashed repeatedly, until I found out that it was the backup software, of all things, that caused the issues...

The Fremantle Power Station - In Black And White

Okay okay I can already hear an outcry from all you color lovers out there - but bear with me!
I have made two separate posts for the Fremantle Power Station: One in black and white and one in color. I simply liked both looks(albeit the B/W a little more) and wanted to share both versions with you.
For now, let's just enjoy the sheer might of this abandoned and, as some say, haunted temple of steel, concrete and broken glass in the raw beauty that is black and white...

The Fremantle Power Station - In Color

Righto, here we are with our second edition of the Fremantle Power Station.

The colored version of the images brings justice to all the wall art inside the ruins and also shows a sense of decay that is happening in this building which is empty since 1985 - the year I was born!

Freo Harbor

Well, well, well! I wasn't actually planning to photograph Fremantle last night...
But we finished the Fremantle Power Station Earlier than expected, so I used the extra time to explore the local turf and take a few shots.

A short stunt on the streets of Perth

Yesterday was a really productive day! First of all I ran into the city to do some small shopping and I decided to bring my camera along. With my nifty fifty lens mounted and an hour to spare I rushed through the CBD and took a few shots along the way...

Jane Brook in the hills of Perth

Last night I felt the urge to go out and do some little exploring so I grabbed my gear(well, most of it!) and hit the road. I knew that John Forrest National Park borders on our suburbs so it should be pretty easy to find a track that leads into the NP...

Woodbridge House

Sorry I didn't have internet for the last week or so, but here's what I've been up to recently:

This is Woodbridge House in, well, Woodbridge, Western Australia

Vintage Lilies And Indiana Bridges

Although the Arum Lilies are a real "predator" for the local forests, they certainly make for some fascinating subjects. Currently the forests around Margaret River are packed full with Arum Lilies and walking through these forests makes you feel like you're in a dream...

A week in the southwest - Margaret River, Augusta and Dunsborough

A series of images from last week's holiday stunt in the south. We visited some of the beaches in Dunsborough, Augusta and Conto's, went whale watching and had gone for endless strolls through the bush and forests of the region with our friend's dog 'Mia'...

Lake Monger, Perth, Western Australia Aug 2014

Perth CBD as seen from the north shore of Lake Monger
I've been meaning to photograph Lake Monger for a long time now. In fact for almost two years! Last Wednesday I had a day off and decided to use this chance to check out the lake and it's stunning vistas on Perth CBD with my good mate Mark...

Guildford Grammar

Guildford Grammar Chapel - I wanted to shoot this location for over a year now... ironically it's really just 5 minutes down the road from where I live but I always end up shooting other locations further afield.

Avon Descent 2014 - Bells Rapids Section

Wow, what a day!

The water levels of the Swan River are the highest in a decade, the weather was absolutely perfect - blue skies and not a single cloud - and the competitors of the 42nd annual Avon Descent provided a spectacular and thrilling show for hundreds of visitors...

Quinninup Falls

Quinninup Falls, Western Australia

Last weekend I headed down south to Margaret River and, while having dinner, I wondered if there are any waterfalls in the area worth seeing. A quick google search brought up a forum post with the title "Secret waterfall in the Margaret River region". I was immediately intrigued!
A little more research revealed that this secret waterfall was only an hours walk from the car park at Moses Rock beach(which isn't strictly Margaret River anymore, but close enough for me...).

Lesmurdie Falls National Park 24/07/2014

Last Thursday I went out on yet again another spontaneous little trip. I have heard a few of my mates at work talk about Lesmurdie Falls and thought I'd check it out...

The Pinnacles, June 2014

Last weekend I received a visitor from Germany, a friend whom I knew for over ten years now, and we decided spontaneously to head up to the Pinnacles to marvel at this otherworldly place out in the bush. I've been to the Pinnacles before, about 5 years ago, but it amazed me just like the first time I was there...

Bells, Forrests and Kings

Ok today I got a triple pack of images.

We start off with the Bells Rapids, which btw slowly turns into my favorite spot around Perth as I've been there now about six times in the last five months :)

Feature in the Australian Traveller Magazine!

I am very proud and pleased to announce that the Australian Traveler magazine has chosen to publish my photograph "Memories of Perth" in their previous edition (Issue 056) and they even dedicated a double page to my shot! I'm absolutely blown away and very grateful for this reward! Today my issue arrived in the mail and it's a strange (but very awesome!) feeling to see your own shot featured in a magazine!

If you're interested, head over to http://www.australiantraveller.com/perth/your-shot-winner-memories-of-perth/ to take a look!

Many thanks to the Australian Traveller Magazine for their excellent choice (hehe!) and thanks to everyone who has been and still is supporting me and my photography! I love you all!

Far, far away on a Mountain called "Dale"

Don't you just love spontaneous road-trips? I do. And I particularly love Perth, because - despite what a lot of people say about Perth being a smallish and boring City -there's loads of stuff to see and do, if you do your homework and search a little bit online! There are plenty of interesting, and mostly less traveled places within 60-90 minutes from the CBD.

Zig Zag Sunset 25/06/2014

Some shots from my phone, taken in Zig Zag scenic Drive after work while enjoying the magnificent WA sunset :)

Btw, the cloud on the horizon is from a bush fire north of Perth (see upper Panorama)

The Swan Bell Tower, Perth WA

Okay, this post isn't exactly 100% exclusively about the Bell Tower, there's also a few bits and pieces from city-side Perth. But you guys get the idea, right?!

If you've never been to the Bell Tower, you should definitely put it on your Perth-Bucket-List!
It offers great view of the City, Kings Park and the Swan River! Although some, including me, might find the entry fee of $14 a little steep...

Hidden Gems - Claisebrook Cove

It's this time of the week again, and I finally found the time to catch up and process all my recent images...

Last Wednesday I spontaneously decided to head down to the Claisebrook Cove and take a few shots. The weather was promising during the day as the sky was filled with "Super Mario" Clouds - really quite amazing! Unfortunately though, the westerly winds ruined my hopes of a cloud-filled sky for sunset and just about 30 minutes before the sun was due to set, the sky was as empty as a North Korean motorway ...

Bummer!

Margaret River Mouth and Limestone Cliffs

A Day out along the mouth of the Margaret River

My Midland

Ok I've been carrying these pics with me for over a week now. It's time I put them online. Two weeks ago I went on a little tour through the industrial backyards of Midland and took a few shots.

Playing with light

Hi everyone, today I figured I try my luck in portrait photography. So I invited some models around and experimented with different lighting techniques. I mainly used my iPhone for lighting the background tho as it's fun and easy.

Limestone cliff on the Margaret River - just a quick taste

Just a quick taste of what's to come in the next few days, as we just spent an afternoon exploring some of the caves and limestone cliffs on the Margaret River :)

Sorry for the bad image quality -t his photo was taken with my iPhone... :)

Phood Fotography

Here's something new!

Yesterday my flatmate Zoe gave me a whole bunch of tomatoes that she couldn't finish so I decided, after some quick research, to try myself in making some "faux" sun dried Tomatoes (well, in this case our oven had to play the part of the sun ;) ).

Claisebrook Station, East Perth

One location that I have been wanting to shoot  for ages is Claisebrook Station, just east of Perth. It's a great vatage point from where you can see the skyline of the CBD, the Highway beneath the overpass and the train lines... Together with my mate John, I finally got around to shoot this place :)

Margaret River @ night

Trying out my new tripod on Perth...

Armed with my recently Magic-Lantern-hacked Camera and a new tripod, I kicked myself in the butt and went out on a small trip to visit a few places that have had my attention for quite some time now. All in all, I couldn't be happier! See for yourself...

Bells Rapids, Brigadoon

Not much water in the "rapids" during summer, I'm planing to go back there during the wet months and take more shots. Still an interesting place, not too far from Perth.
