2015_01_12 Surf's Up!

View on the Indian Ocean and the Margaret River from the Prevelly lookout.

This was the first time I tried photographing surfers in the water. There are a few challenges like predicting good waves and then having the subject in focus as it moves toward you; focusing on one scene without getting distracted by other things around you, getting close enough to the subjects or getting the correct exposure as it's easy to overexpose when metering the water.

One thing I noticed was that as I was shooting into the setting sun, all the people in the photos were underexposed. The advantage this had was that the waves were being back-lit and thus had a nice color brilliance.

Don't ask me who these guys were... would love to be able to tell you but there were like 20 people in the water and I couldn't recognize anyone. If you recognize yourself or a friend, please feel free to leave a comment below or share this post :)
