Home Sweet Home - disovering your home turf with different eyes

Who said home is boring?

sunrise on a winter morning outside our home in Rossdorf/Thueringen
the morning frost covers everything

hidden beauty

spider webs covered in ice

the beauty of being a photographer is that you notice details and things, a thousand other people would walk straight past without ever realizing they exist...

tunring the ordinary into something extraordinary
the colorful season fall has taken over the land, turning everything bright orange, yellow and red

got a funny feeling about this photo? this picture is actually upside-down. the trees you see are merely the reflection of the actual trees on the surface of a lake...

standing out

the weather has plenty of surprises in store. a week after this sunny and warm day the temperatures dropped to about -14C degrees... you gotta enjoy the sun as long as it lasts

first test shots with my sisters 50mm/f1.4 lens... not too bad at all...

how can you not fall in love with this landscape?

if your up nice and early each morning, the winter time in Germany will provide you with some magnificient sunrises. On this particular morning the sky turned into a flaming inferno.

The end of the World - at least, that's what it looks like:)
The name of my home town "Rossdorf" literally translates as "Horse Village", I guess this explains it all...

Left or Right? It's your choice...

Formosa Original

Taiwanese aborigines are Austronesian peoples, with linguistic and genetic ties to other Austronesian ethnic groups, such as peoples of the Philippines, Malaysia, Indonesia, Madagascar, Polynesia, and Oceania. The issue of an ethnic identity unconnected to the Asian mainland has become one thread in the discourse regarding the political status of Taiwan.

The aboriginal people of Taiwan are the original inhabitants of this little island. They number approximately 500,000 (about 2.2% of Taiwan's 23 million people), a proportion similar to that of Australia or Canada.
Rarely seen these days, the Taiwanese original people wear their traditional outfit mostly only on special occasions, such as weddings and funerals

Taiwan's original people were independent before the country was invaded by outsiders. Contrary to the propaganda of the People's Republic of China (PRC),  the Republic of China (ROC - Taiwan) is only a recent addition to the Chinese Empire, with colonization beginning in 1624. The taiwanese Aborigines armed resistance to outside invaders only ended in the 1930s following the Japanese Imperial Army's suppression of the Wushe uprising by the Sediq Aborigines.(As portraied in the recent Movie "Sediq Bale")

Recent research suggests their ancestors may have been living on the islands for approximately 8,000 years before major Han Chinese immigration began.

Today Taiwan's aboriginal people suffer under the same conditions of internal colonialsm that has been inflicted upon aboriginal people around the world in countries such as Australia, Canada, the USA, New Zealand, and elsewhere.

A revival of ethnic pride is expressed in many ways by aborigines, including incorporating elements of their culture into commercially successful pop music. Efforts are under way in indigenous communities to revive traditional cultural practices and preserve their traditional languages. Several aboriginal tribes are becoming extensively involved in the tourism and ecotourism industries to achieve increased economic self-reliance from the state

Australia Day 2013

The biggest event in Australia, with more than 400,000 people attending in Perth alone, this was one hell of a celebration.

"Roads" - A Series

"Long way from home" (Taiwan, June 2011)

During my first visit to Taiwan, we traveled hitch hiking around the whole island. At one time

uncertainty

Whilst on a bout journey through northern Laos in August 2011, this boy and his father joined our group.
It appeared that he was on the way to school for the week, which lay another 50 odd kilometers down the river.
Everytime I look at this picture I'm wondering "What was he thinking of?"

Memories of the past

One of my favorite shots! This old man turned out to be sitting on this little town square every day, smoking his herbs and waiting for the odd tourist to come through and take his photo, then he would hold out his hand and demand a few coins (almost a professional!).

The alternative title for this picture would have been "Old man with a business idea"
:)
